THANK YOU! Last Post for CSDC 2012!

What an amazing Cub Scout Camp season we had this summer. Thank you to parents, family, and friends who sent their cubs to camp. Thank you to our staff for being awesome and giving an amazing Cub Scout Day Camp program to our campers.

Our staff worked hard yesterday cleaning up camp and it was definitely a bitter-sweet moment. I started working at Cub Scout Day Camp when I was 15 as a Den Guide/Chief just like our junior staff. It was a pleasure and an honor to be the Program Director this summer, 6 years later. As some of you may know, I am moving to Illinois right outside of Chicago in a couple weeks to attend seminary and become a pastor in the UMC. As I looked back at Treasure Valley for probably the last time as a staff member (I know, I know, that's what they all say!), I remembered all of the amazing moments I have had there. I hope your cub enjoyed our program as much as we enjoyed providing it.

If you have any feedback (positive, negative, and/or suggestions) please feel free to contact our Camp Director, Jeff Harris, at jeharris@bsamail.org. We would really appreciate it so that we can make our Cub Scout Day Camp program even better next summer!

Here are a few miscellaneous photos and video that did not make our blog previously this summer. There is also a photo from each week to look back over our summer. Enjoy!

Week 5 Day 4

Wow I can't believe the week (and our summer) is almost over! We have been having so much fun at camp that the time just flew by. In fact, I was having so much fun with your campers today that I completely forgot to take pictures! I will definitely post a bunch tomorrow after our campfire as I know our staff has some extra fun planned.

Today, your campers got to mine for gold, make cacti sand-art, go swimming, use our bouldering wall and rock-throwing range, have fun on paddle boats, cook pizza over the fire, shoot playing cards in BB, and have fun practicing archery.

***DON'T FORGET: Our Campfire Program is tomorrow at 3:30pm. Please arrive at 3:15, park in our upper parkinglot, and walk down the trail to our day building. Don't forget that our beautiful outdoor camp is located...outdoors. Please wear proper footwear and bug spray as our campfire is located down one of our shorter trails in the woods. There is NO BUS SERVICE FRIDAY AFTERNOON so please come to our campfire and then take your cub home after. Our Trading Post will also be open after the campfire.***

See you tomorrow!

Week 4 Day 4

WAHOO! We made it through today without any rain! Our staff was fully prepared with tables for eating lunch indoors, movies ready to watch in case we got stuck inside, and super awesome energy! However, the storms held off for today and we were able to have a ton of fun outside. Your campers made sand art, mined for gold, went swimming, cooked pizza over the campfire, used our bouldering wall and rock throwing range, shot playing cards at BB, and continued practicing their shooting techniques at Archery. Check out our pictures below!

Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy with occasional thunderstorms. We are prepared to deal with this and will still have camp tomorrow. If it is just raining, all activities will run as scheduled. If there are thunderstorms or severe rain, we will keep your cubs busy with movies and fun indoor games.

Our normal campfire program begins at 3:30pm tomorrow afternoon. Please plan to arrive around 3:15, park in our upper parking lot, and walk down the trail to our Day Building. THERE WILL BE NO BUS SERVICE TOMORROW AFTERNOON so please plan to pick up your camper at our campfire.

***CAMPFIRE PROGRAM WILL BE CANCELLED IF IT IS RAINING***
Please plan to pick up your camper at 3:15 at our Day Building.

If your camper still never received a t-shirt, or a t-shirt in the correct size, please contact Jeff Harris at 774-312-1782. Our t-shirt order was messed up and we will not be getting a new shipment until tomorrow afternoon. We hope to arrange something with you so you can pick up the shirt at our Worcester Office. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience.

Week 4, Day 2

HOWDY!

Welcome to our blog! We hope your cub is having a blast so far at camp. Your cubs have been doing so many awesome activities, earning beltloops, and having fun! Over the past two days they have learned to sew, tye-dyed bandanas, gone on nature hikes, gone swimming and boating, learned fire safety, used our bouldering wall and rock throwing range, practiced shooting at BBs and Archery, and worked on their kickball beltloop! Check out some awesome pictures and video below!

Today we had some severe thunderstorms for about an hour, but that did NOT keep us from having fun! Our staff kept your campers entertained while we all took cover in our day building. We sang songs, performed skits, and even had some campers teach us new songs! Around 3:30 the sun came out and we were able to proceed with our last program areas for the day (waterfront was still closed to ensure safety).

Don't forget to encourage your cubs to bring a waterbottle and use it! It is very hot and humid at camp this week and we want them to stay hydrated.  We will also be introducing water games at sports to keep cool.

**We apologize for the inconvenience of missing camp t-shirts. Our order came in wrong last week and we are doing our best to fix it. Please send in a note if your cub is missing a t-shirt.**

The campers loved making the cacti so much that they wanted the recipe for the dough they used to make it. You can find it below:
Self-Hardening Salt Clay
- 1/2 cups salt
- 4 cups flour
-1 1/2 cups water
Mix dry ingredients together. Then add water gradually. When dough forms a ball around the spoon, knead the dough well adding water if it is too crumbly. Air dry or this clay can also be baked at 350 degrees for 30-40 mins or until hard. This recipe serves 8 cub scouts.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Our campfire is tomorrow at 3:30 pm! Please plan to arrive at 3:15 and park in our upper parking lot. You can then walk down the trail to the camp. There will be NO BUS SERVICE TOMORROW AFTERNOON so please plan to come to the campfire and pick up your cub scout. Our Trading Post will be open and we will have an Art Show where you can pick up your cub's artwork for the week.

***Please remember that the camp speed limit is 10 MPH! We have campsites from the Boy Scout side along the road on the way to our camp so please respect the speed limit!***
